Mrs. Khalida Nelson is the Director of the Ananias
Home for Blind Girls in Lahore, where girls up to the
age of 18 live in Christian community. Khalida treats
the girls as her own daughters, providing a unique
atmosphere of hope and dignity.
The Ananias Home for Blind Girls is a project of
Caritas Pakistan, and administration of the Home,
including staffing and programme, is undertaken by
Caritas and their excellent team. However, the
Home was dependent for its survival on local
funding, and due to shortage of specific income,
Caritas had determined to close the Home, until
Starfish Asia agreed to provide a running subsidy.
Such oases of hope should not be allowed to close
down!

The girls study for secular exams as well as
learning to read and write Braille, use knitting
machines to make garments for sale and gain
skills needed to live a fulfilled and useful life.
The home currently accommodates 25 girls
and is constantly being upgraded and
developed. Starfish Asia is committed to
provide not only funds but, as needed,
equipment for the training of the girls for life.
